During the period of 6 to 8 September Auxiliarists of the National Personnel Department (the “P” Department) manned a boating safety booth at the National AARP convention in Boston, MA.
After we set up our booth many attendees visited and many asked: "Why are you here?"
We answered most of the questions with personal stories of member involvement. We answered their questions using videos, brochures and lots of humor.
Past District 1-NR Commodore James Anderson with Deputy “P” Department Chief David Hirtle and Auxiliarists Jennifer Fletcher, Barbara Blanchard, James Lambert, Norm Heinzer and Richard Eckhouse opened the eyes of literally thousands of conference attendees to the possibility of rewarding service in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary!

"Wow, I didn't realize I could still be involved!" was a common response.
“Your local AARP chapter is a good source of membership potential and it can certainly partner in safe boating education and causes,” said COMO Anderson. “A small effort in making contact can prove to be beneficial to both organizations,” he added.
