The purpose of this event is to determine how well each team member knows the rules for use of the VHF Marine radio and how effectively they can gather the needed information on a distress situation from a boater using the VHF radio.
- Each team member will be given a written, 20 question, multiple-choice test to complete.
- Maximum time allotted for the written test is 20 minutes.
- The team will then pick one team member for the oral radio test, that team member will be individually tested with a live radio distress situation.
- That team member will be scored on accuracy of information gathering, proper use of pro-words and proper radio use.
- Total team score for each of the above events will be added together.
- The team with the highest score will receive 9 points. The team with the second highest score will receive 6 points. The team with the third highest score will receive 4 points, and the team with the fourth highest score will receive 2 points.
