The purpose of this event is to throw a type IV life ring to a floating target for high score.
- The floating target is designed to snag the ring buoy so that a team member, in a small inflatable dinghy, will then paddle to the target, remove the ring buoy and be pulled back to the throwing position by his/her teammates.
- The dinghy team member will be properly attired in the necessary PPE, (flotation and a helmet) before boarding the boat.
- Each team will be allowed five minutes of practice time.
- The floating target will have scoring sections of 10, 20 and 30 points. Ring Buoy’s that miss the target or fail to stay attached to the target for manual release, will not receive a point score.
- The team member in the dinghy is not permitted to depart the dock until the ring buoy has been thrown and is attached to the target.
- The ring buoy thrower is not permitted to throw the ring buoy until the dinghy is back in contact with and alongside the dock.
- Team members are permitted to rotate through the line throwing and dinghy positions but this is not mandatory.
- The time allotted for this exercise is 15 minutes. At the end of the exercise, the total points accumulated by each team will be tabulated.
