Portsmouth's weatherman treated us gloriously this day. The sun shone brightly and the winds were calm. The City of Portsmouth put on her smiling face for us today.

The day before ISAR is traditionally the day to attend briefings, settle in to hotel rooms and see friends and acquaintances once again. Some of the reunions have spanned many years and the hugs and shakes were plentiful.

The briefings were staggered throughout the day. Each one kicked off with a safety brief from the ISAR Chief Safety Officer USCG Auxiliarist Bill Herman. "As I look about this room I notice that all of you have all of your 'body parts,' let's keep it that way over the entire weekend," said Bill.

Brief descriptions of the competitions and questions and answers followed the safety briefing. Led by Chief Warrant Office Steve Cabral, USCG, the Chief of the Competition Events, the briefings were performed in both English and French for the benefit of the Canadian Auxiliarists.

ISAR 2006 Competition Rules
  1. Team Selection:

Twelve teams will compete in ISAR 2006- 6 USCGA and 6 CCGA teams. At the same time, a Can-Am competition, made up of four, three-person international crews, two from one country, one from the other will compete in a separate competition.

Each of the twelve teams will arrive at the competitors’ briefing, Thursday, October 26, 2006 with four members, one of whom is to be pre-designated by the team as their coxswain (captain). Of the three other members of each team, one will be selected by the officials to be a Can-Am team member. This will leave twelve, three-person ISAR teams and four, three-person Can-Am teams for a total of sixteen teams.

  2. Teams Requiring Spares:

In case of injury or illness of a regular team member, the respective team member will be recalled from the Can-Am team as a replacement.

When a vacancy occurs in a Can-Am team for any reason, a replacement will be chosen by a random drawing by the Games Chairman from any volunteers that may be present. The Games Chairman may give priority to respective Region/District members that are present and who may volunteer as a replacement. Once the competition begins, any team member may only be replaced due to injury or illness at the discretion of the Games Chairman and CCG Co-Chairman.

  3. Event Judges:

Once the competition begins, any team member may only be replaced due to injury or illness at the discretion of the Games Chief of Competition and the CCGA Deputy Chief of Competition.

  4. Dispute Resolution:

The Games Chief of Competition, as assigned by the ISAR 2006 Planning Committee and the CCG Deputy Chief will have final authority where disputes arise.
