Talk about indoctrination under fire, the new Video Branch of the National Public Affairs Department did just that. Under the supervision of Division Chief, Eric HeBert, the camera handlers, editors and interviewers carried out their first mission with aplomb.

An impressive video lab was set up in “Studio A” and manned by a technical staff headed up by Al and Roxie Firmin. Under their direction, many video interviews were recorded over a two and a half day period. These videos can be used by all departments at their discretion and choosing,.

Roxie and her crew, which included “Gal on the scene” interviewer Ginger West, then took to the “road.” The crew videotaped the festive events on Thursday and Friday night and the major conference meetings, in all compiling hours of footage.

Now came the real test under fire; editing those hours of footage into a ten minute presentation to be viewed at the banquet on Saturday night. Gallons of sweat went into their labors. “We were editing while the rest of the conference people were eating their dinners,” said Roxie. “We made our deadline by minutes.”

The video presentation was warmly received, the bits of humor wonderfully mixed with the major speech out takes.
